Jeff's interest in writing was sparked by a curious incident in sixth grade that he reveals to students at schools he visits, the story of which recently appeared in Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul. In school he earned good grades, received an academic scholarship to UCLA, and earned dual degrees at UC San Diego. He worked as a sportswriter for eight years with the San Diego Union-Tribune, during which time all the greatest athletes dripped sweat on him.
Jeff is a member of the Book-of-the-Month Club (he writes a book a month) and he visits more than 100 schools each year. (He also plays with his family, practices karate, flies airplanes, and takes naps.) With his high-energy, educational, all-day school visits, Jeff inspires nearly half-a-million students every year to read and write.

Editorial Reviews From Booklist ... this account of Julie Krone, a top jockey in the almost exclusively male racing world, will be inspiring to horse lovers and athletes alike. Color and black-and-white photos range from Krone's early days as a five-year-old county-fair competitor to her victory in the 1993 Belmont Stakes, which made her the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race. The author also mentions the prejudice and discouragement Krone experienced from male trainers, owners, and other jockeys, making her success all the more admirable. Laura Tillotson

School Presentations
Educators call Jeff Savage's school visits incomparable. He is at the school site the entire day. His high-energy assemblies are inspiring and educational and tailored to different grade levels. His classroom visits are fun and informative. He gets reluctant readers excited about books. He demonstrates real values to writing.
Jeff provides his own books for purchase by students and staff, so that schools don't have to deal with Jeff's 10 publishing companies. What's more, Jeff sells the books at his author discount, which is much less than the school library price.
