Thanks for voting in the First Annual

BIG CATS won Book of the Year
in the Third to Fourth Grade category.
Elaine Landau is a highly acclaimed author of over 300 nonfiction books. She has written on such subjects as terrorism, earth science, the supernatural, planets, dinosaurs, ancient civilizations, ecology and a broad range of contemporary issues.
Her most recent published books include Beyond Pluto: Smokejumpers; METH; America's Drug Epidemic; Exploring Ancient Egypt with Elaine Landau; and Heroine of the Titanic: The Real Unsinkable Molly Brown.
Other books by Elaine Landau are: Suicide Bombers, Why Are They Starving Themselves; Understanding Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia; BIG CATS: Hunters of the Night; Holocaust Memories; and POPCORN!. She says, "I've loved hearing stories for as long as I remember.. As a child my parents read to me, and when I grew older, I read to myself. After visiting the children's room of my local library, I knew I'd found my favorite place in the world I spent much of my childhood there, making friends with the librarians and losing myself in the books. We didn't have a lot of money, so my library card felt like a charge card to me. I loved the idea of being able to take home whichever book appealed to me at the moment."
Elaine has a BA degree in English and Journalism and a Masters degree in Library and Information Science.
Ms. Landau lives in tropical Miami with her husband, Norman, and her son, Michael. Her husband, a top-notch researcher, works with her on many of her books. Their son, Michael, tells jokes and encourages them to take him to Disney World. When that doesn't work as often as he'd like, he suggests that they eat out. Many of Elaine Landau's books have been written under a palm tree while drinking lemonade. However, her favorite trip was going to chilly Scotland to research a book on the Loch Ness monster. She also loved visiting Alaska.
