"I'm sure my career would have taken a different direction, had I not been bored to death as a kid. Our TV had 2 stations (on a clear day) and we owned very few store-bought toys. From morning to night, my brothers and I romped through deep woods and icy cold creeks building bridges, caves, forts and tree houses. We raided our mother's art supply closet, drawing and painting thousands of pictures, and watched for the weekly visit from the bookmobile lady. I read so much, my brain just blew up, and all I wanted to do was do something elsesomewhere else. So I moved away, traveled far, and painted thousands more pictures. And when I look inside my OWN books, I spot bits and pieces of those long slow days, and I realize, they were probably the most magical time of my life."
Cyd Moore's energy and enthusiasm light up the room. Her lively presentation, always a favorite at conferences, gets rave reviews from teachers, parents, and studentskindergarten through college. Kids love her slide show, which includes pictures that she drew as a small child. She whips out drawings on the overhead and tells unbelievable tales of childhood adventures. Students get so inspired, they write and illustrate their OWN stories about Cyd Moore's life! What a fun life!/x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>
Cyd's delightful illustrations have been called "strokes of magic." Her pictures appear in over 30 children's books, including I LOVE YOU, STINKY FACE, ALICE & GRETA, and GOODNIGHT PRINCESS PRUNEY TOES, as well as McDonald's Happy Meal boxes, magazines, and more. A true southern belle, artist, story-teller, writer, and world traveler. Do yourself a favor, and take a trip to her website...you'll have so much fun! www.CydMoore.com.

ISBN-13: 978-0525469896

Marjorie Parkers joyful, reassuring text pairs beautifully with Cyd Moores exuberant art showing all kinds of loving animal moms and their babies to create a picture-book celebration of love.
Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal In comparing a human mother and child to their animal counterparts, this book finds a way to be original and sweet without being sappy. A repetitive pattern in the text is given dynamic form through the drama of the turning of the page. Throughout the book, the first of two spreads presents an animal in its natural setting, in one case a stream in the jungle: "If I could be an elephant,/my trunk would sprinkle you
." The following pages then show the mother and child together, "But I'm not THAT kind of mommy,/and I know my baths will do." The illustrator makes connections between the two spreads so that, in this example, a toy elephant sits on the edge of the bathtub. In another pairing, timber wolves are depicted howling at the moon on a starlit night. On the next page, the mother sings lullabies to her child, the same sky behind them, as they snuggle on a porch swing. The art is vibrant and expressive, with the mother and child making a friendly and secure duo. The text is printed in a curve, adding to the fluidity of the page; it encapsulates the book's theme with a final statement, "NoI am not an octopus,/I'm not a wallaby/but I am YOUR kind of mommy,/And that's the best thing I could be!" This celebration of mothers will get young listeners thinking about some of the basic connections among all creatures.Martha Topol, Traverse Area District Library, Traverse City, MI Copyright Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. What Do Parents Do? (When You're Not Home) by Jeanie Franz Ransom (Author), Cyd Moore (Illustrator) Reading level: Ages 4-8 Hardcover: 32 pages Publisher: Peachtree Publishers (March 17, 2007)
ISBN-10: 1561454095
ISBN-13: 978-1561454099
The tables are turned and the grown-ups have all the fun in this wickedly silly story of parental mayhem.
Two children set off to spend the night at their grandparents'. Throughout the course of the day, the young boy's imagination runs wild as he imagines what his parents are doing while he's away. Jumping on beds, he thinks, or sledding down the stairs on pillows. Watching hours and hours of television, playing ball in the house, dressing up the dog, eating junk food, playing video games, and in general making one VERY BIG mess!
The next morning when the kids come home the house looks tidy. "It was pretty quiet," says Dad... but was it? Mom is hiding something behind her back. And those socks hanging from the ceiling fan... they weren't there yesterday.
Cyd Moore's antic illustrations contrast the wild adventures at home with the more wholesome fun at their grandparents' house. Jeanie Ransom's clever tale will keep young readers laughing long after the story has ended.

Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal From breakfast to bedtime, readers follow a pair of siblings through their day of jam, syrup, mud, paste, and mashed potatoes (and the yucky effects they have on cats, dogs, teddy bears, pants, etc.). The chanting rhymes celebrate all this stickiness: Sticky people love to play with/Furry teddy bears./Fuzzy, wuzzy, sticky also./No one sticky cares. ... delicate watercolor illustrations ... the last page shows the day's sticky remnants and promises an equally messy tomorrow. Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal ... The comical captions on the cartoon-style "photographs" appear in handwritten lettering to fit the scrapbook layout. The warm words and pastel illustrations are playful representations of a child, teen, and young woman's memories. This is a wonderful, reassuring read-aloud for storytime and for individual sharing. Deborah Rothaug, Pasadena Elementary School, Plainview, NY Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.
From Booklist . ... What might have been a sticky-sweet ending is kept palatable and reassuring in a child-centered way thanks to the light touch used by McCourt and Moore, who previously collaborated on I Love You, Stinky Face (1997) and several other books. The use of a black background on the scrapbook pages is an effective device, setting the photos apart from the other scenes, nicely reinforcing the notion that mothers have lives before parenthood, sure to be a new idea for some children. "But Mama, but Mama, what if I were a super smelly skunk, and I smelled so bad that my name was Stinky Face?"Mothers love their children and this unconditional love is truly tested in I LOVE YOU, STINKY FACE. Lisa McCourt and Cyd Moore beautifully weave a reassuring tale of the love and affection of a parent. The imaginative son turns himself into a meat-eating dinosaur, a swamp creature and much, much more before being satisfied with the fact that no matter how stinky he is or how slimy of a creature he could possibly be, he is loved and nothing will change that.
Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal A child tucked into bed delays going to sleep, needing reassurance of her mother's love. The youngster asks, "Would you still love me....if I were a big scary ape?" or "a super smelly skunk" or "a terrible meat-eating dinosaur," and the list continues. No matter what horrible creature is imagined, Mama says she will always love and care for her child. Warm pastel drawings sweetly illustrate the story; the imaginary creatures are appealing rather than frightening. Reminiscent of Margaret Wise Brown's The Runaway Bunny (HarperCollins, 1942) and Kady Denton's Would They Love a Lion? (Kingfisher, 1995), this is a good choice for storytime or one-on-one sharing. On the telephone to her son, a mother promises the many ways she will come to rejoin him, traveling by hot air balloon, camel, cheetah, and shark.
Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal In this companion to I Love You, Stinky Face (BridgeWater, 1997), a little boy has some new queries for his mother. Speaking to her by telephone, he wonders when she is coming home and asks a series of questions starting with "...what if the airplane forgets how to fly?" His mother responds to each worry with a Runaway Bunny-like solution, pledging to "...hop in the basket of a hot-air balloon," "...find the speediest shark in the ocean," or "...hitch a ride on...[a] supersonic spaceship..."-all in an effort to get back to her son. Moore's detailed, full-color drawings include such exotic locales as a lush jungle, a medieval castle, and the gangplank of a pirate ship. The amusing illustrations in muted, dreamy shades spill out over the pages, reflecting the free associations of the text. Although the formula is familiar, the message is reassuring and could be used to prepare children for times when a parent is away from home. Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canada Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.
From Booklist With the same playful questions and wildly fantastic answers that worked so well in I Love You, Stinky Face (1997), McCourt and Moore play out a small child's anxiety about whether Mama will make it home. What if the airplane forgets to fly? Then she will jump on a camel. But what if . . . ? From hot-air balloon to pirate ship, from shark to spaceship to dragon, Mama is absolutely certain that she will brave desert, jungle, ocean, and black hole in space and return safely to park in the driveway at home with the child she loves. The palette is similar to the bright purple and green of the first book, and the double-page paintings show the child talking to Mama on the telephone while his books and toys take him on the imaginary journeys everywhere. Kids will welcome the reassurance as they laugh at the wild exaggeration and recognize their fears. Hazel Rochman--

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly The team behind I Love You, Stinky Face serves up a tale of bedtime shenanigans with a father-daughter spin.... McCourt sprinkles on the sugar a bit heavily, but adroitly conveys the bond between father and daughter as well as the fanciful role-playing between parent and child. Punching up her pastel palette with shades of purple and orange, Moore's exuberant watercolors include warm domestic details such as fuzzy household pets and cozy bedroom slippers. An amiable bedtime outing. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal This follow-up to I Love You, Stinky Face (BridgeWater, 1997) continues in the tradition of innumerable stories in which a mother comforts her child's fears, but with a goofy twist. As with the first book, there is little sense of sentimentality, as Mama tries to allay her youngster's misgivings. ... the silliness does provide Moore the opportunity to draw lots of entertainingly funny pictures. Her lively cartoon style is perfect for the over-the-top scenarios described in the text. ... Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.
