Editorial Reviews
Families Are Forever isn’t a good children’s book.  It’s a great children’s book.”--Adam Pertman, Executive Director, Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute

Families Are Forever has been my 3-year-old’s favorite bedtime story for months. And I have to say, it’s one of mine, too.  Though the topic is adoption and blended families, issues that don't apply to our particular family, the appeal is universal.  It teaches the message that families come in all shapes, sizes and colors in a gentle, straightforward manner that I appreciate as a mom.  Definitely a must-have for any child’s personal library.”--Rebecca Murphy, Editor of Metro Augusta Parent Magazine

Editorial Reviews
From
School Library Journal Five-year-old Rain, born in China, loves the dumplings that she and her adoptive American mother make together. One day at school, Rain's friend reports that she has dumplings for lunch, but Rain doesn't see what she is expecting. Katarina explains that they are called pirozhki in Russian, but they are dumplings. Carlos's empaadas puzzle them both, although they concede that they certainly look like dumplings. That day their teacher, too, has dumplings in her lunch, in the form of Polish pierogies, and promises a tasting of dumplings from all over the world the following week. The message in this sweet, simply story is explicitly stated: Each dumpling is special and each one is different–just like people. ....–Alexa Sandmann, Kent State University, OH Copyright Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. Dumplings are Delicious is a sweet story with a big message! What do dumplings, ravioli, quenelles and pirozhid have in common? A young girl named Rain discovers that they are all dumplings-from different lands. Whether they are spicy or sweet; round or square "dumplings are delicious-especially when you share them with friends.'" This book is a great springboard for geography lessons as well as a way to promote greater understanding and respect for all people.—Dawn Mathesorn, author of Ruby Lee, the Wise Bumblebee.

Excellent book! It points out that although we are all different we are also the same and if we share our difference we can build long-lasting friendships -i-parenting Awards reviewer

Tooth Fairy Tales by Deb Capone (Author), Stan Jaskiel (Illustrator) Reading level: Ages 4-8 Hardcover: 29 pages Publisher: As Simple as That (April 20, 2005)ToothFairy.jpg (55048 bytes)

In Tooth Fairy Tales, when Rain finally loses her first tooth, she begins to wonders what happens to the teeth that children lose?  As she tries to answer this question she learns that while children all over the world lose teeth, they all celebrate this milestone quite differently. The I-parenting review team said “this book shows people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, and highlights the fact that many people do things differently even things that seem simple. It is a great way to learn that there is no one 'right way’.”

 Presentations

Deb's uses humor, enthusiasm and age-appropriate material in all programs. With a warm lively, and entertaining style, she is easily accessible to all students. Programs are designed to address issues surrounding diversity in ways that resonate with children. Deb considers the opportunity to visit schools an honor and that sentiment permeates all other programs. Programs are designed to meet the needs of students at all levels and can be custom-tailored if desired.

Some schools have scheduled workshops for teachers and an evening session for parents on the day of the school visit.

Each program contains four parts and are interactive and friendly.

1. An interactive introduction of the author and the topic.
2. A slide show (or blow up poster boards) designed to engage the children in the topic. For example, in the Families presentation, the slide show get the children thinking about what makes a family and the many types of families that are all around us. For Tooth Fairy Tales we begin with a hilarious discussion and slide show about teeth!
3. Reading of the book that corresponds to the slide show. Also available are the original drawings, galleys and edits. Many children are fascinated with how books become books and these programs allow for that discussion as well
4. Storytelling-the program ends with a multi-cultural story that relates to the topic.

A typical full day would include three to four individual programs during the school day, each lasting about 45 minutes.
Larger groups can be accommodated if teachers are available for monitoring student behavior.

Some schools have scheduled workshops for teachers and an evening session for parents on the day of the school visit.

Deb Capone is interested in booking a program for your school and travels throughout the Northeast (further if requested) and can combine programs in districts that are next door neighbors over several days. Information about ordering books is available and many schools have used Deb's books as part of their fundraising activities. Generally, we prefer to ship books in advance to schools and sign them after the events. This procedure prevents the children who are not getting books from feeling left out.
